So You Don't Look Like That Girl From Instagram. So What?

"Oh, my darling, it's true. Beautiful things have dents and scratches too."

Just because she's beautiful, doesn't mean you aren't.

Yes, her body is on point. Yes, she has these bright blue eyes that can be seen from miles away. And yes, she has a perfectly sun-kissed tan, all year round.

Each and every day, whether we realize it or not, us girls are continuously shaming ourselves for not looking like that girl on Instagram — and it is truly one of the saddest things ever to witness.

We are constantly told what to wear and how to wear it through magazines and social media. We follow selective profiles on Instagram in hopes that one day we will wake up and look like the girl that is portrayed through our screen. We look at girls walking on the streets and question our self-worth.

But why? Why do we continue to do this?

Sure, we could lose some weight to have this Victoria's Secret beach body we all wish we had. We could also probably dye our hair a different color, maybe buy some new clothes to make ourselves feel better... but at the end of the day, does this really change anything?

At the end of the day, you will still be, you. You can try and change yourself as much as possible, to look like that girl you follow and admire on Instagram.

But darling, no two people will ever be exactly alike — no matter how hard we all try.

And that is not a bad thing — not a bad thing at all.

We were created the way we were and put on this Earth for a reason. And although we may not understand the certain flaws we have and why we have them — that's okay.

Embrace them. Own them. Love them.

Look at yourself in the mirror and say:

"You know what, I may not have the best body, or the best hair, or even the best eye color. But, what I do have is a body, hair on my head, and eyeson my face — eyes, to see this beautiful world surrounding me."

Not many people can say that, and to just have all of that, is a blessing in itself.

Walking around feeling as though you are not good enough is not a life that we should live and it is certainly not a life that we deserve.

Feeling as though we are not pretty enough, not smart enough, not thin enough.

You are enough — and that is the first thing you should tell yourself each day the sun rises.

We should not have to live this life of comparison; continuously comparing ourselves, day to day, to that girl we wish we were.

Self-acceptance is a beautiful quality to have, and one that us girls, need to have more of.

So what if the person next to you thinks you're not enough in their eyes? Who cares what that person thinks? At the end of the day, what matters most is what you think.

How people perceive you is more a reflection of the lens they are peering through than it is about you.

And if you think the boy you like isn't texting you back because you don't look like that girl on the cover of Vogue, think again.

Each and every single one of us is beautiful, in our own unique and mesmerizing way.

And believe it or not, the images we see on Instagram are not always as perfect as we perceive them to be. The amount of likes, retweets, or comments does not define who you are or who they are.

The soul within you does.

So stop shaming and start accepting. Show the world what they have been missing.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
