At some point in life a person has heard the phrase "boys will be boys." It normally starts when we are still in elementary school and a boy starts picking on a girl in his class because he likes her. The girl complains and the teacher laughs and says, "oh, boys will be boys." As we get older you see a group of boys picking on an obvious weaker link and a coach will break it up and say, "boys will be boys." Maybe a girl is crying because her boyfriend cheated on her and her friend gives the excuse once again, "boys will be boys."

Do you see how big the snowball gets as it rolls down this mountain of an excuse called "boys will be boys?" Sure, it starts off very innocent. No one expects it to become a legit excuse. It gets to the point of a guy raping a girl and for someone to brush it off as it's just in boys nature or they blame it on the clothes that she was wearing. What about how in high school dress codes girls aren't allowed to wear yoga pants? It distracts the males from their education. How about instead of giving boys and young men an excuse, teach them to respect women's bodies?

Teach them just because "boys will be boys" doesn't mean they have a right to do whatever he pleases. Teach them to be a gentleman.

I fear if we keep using this phrase, chivalry and basic respect will become foreign to future young men. People laugh and take it as a joke, but would you want your son beating up another person just because he thinks he can or assaulting a women because he thinks it is his right? Before you say this 4 word sentence to brush off a boys behavior, think of what you're really saying.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
