Another day, another shooting. That is the scary, undeniable truth of the United States right now, as blunt as that statement may be. The most recent mass shooting killed 14 individuals in San Bernardino, which happens to be one of the closest shootings that has ever happened near me and talk is buzzing around in the halls of my campus on who did this, and what exactly went down.
Left and right we as citizens hear about shooting, after shooting, after shooting. You can go on any news website or pick up any magazine and you're more than likely to find something regarding gun control and the arguments against and for it. You cannot get away from the horror and tragedy that continues to plague this country day after day.
Tensions are growing higher and higher in this chaotic state we're living in, and people need answers. Prayers, hope and believing that everything will be okay is starting to wear thin and we need action. Even news stands are fighting for answers, as shown in New York Daily News' most recent front page:
The problem with answering this question is everyone had a different answer. We are not cohesively working together to find an answer that helps all. No, what we are doing is what children do on the playground every day. We are fighting like cats and dogs and saying our solution is right and everyone else is wrong.
In a way, it's understandable. Some people hold strong beliefs on keeping gun control the way it is, and it's simply a matter of protecting ourselves. Others, however, feel our country's gun control is too easy to slide past and must be tightened so it is nearly impossible to get a gun at all. And others still, like myself, feel talking about gun control is a good starting point but the real problem lies in the lack of resources to help and administer mental health issues.
Regardless of what our solution ends up being, we need to have one now. We need to stop bickering and arguing, or else more and more innocent lives will be taken away from this country. Instead of thinking solely of ourselves, let us think about what is right for everyone, and our friends and families. If we are somehow able to join hands and work together to stop this madness, regular mass shootings can become a thing of the past for the USA.
