Stop Letting People Decide For You

People's advice and opinions shouldn't be your deciding factor.

NEVER LISTEN TO ANYBODY'S ADVICE.

OKAY, listen to people's advice, but not for subjective things. For those who don't know what subjective means, here's a definition (PLEASE READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE SO YOU'RE NOT CONFUSED BY THE WAY):

sub·jec·tive

səbˈjektiv/ adjective

adjective: subjective

1. based on or influenced by personal feelings, tastes, or opinion

This is not a long article or anything, this is just something to make you gain life knowledge, so I will say it again: NEVER LISTEN TO ANYBODY'S SUBJECTIVE ADVICE.

What is an example of this? Asking somebody, "Is that a good club to go to?", "Is this a good business idea?" and even, "Is that movie good?." EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THOSE QUESTIONS IS SOMETHING ONLY YOU CAN JUDGE BY YOUR OWN INSTINCT, OPINIONS, AND TASTE. Now, remember the keyword ADVICE. If you ask somebody if a club is good or not, advice would by them telling you no or yes. However, if they provide you with facts, then you can judge if you want to go based on those facts. For example, if they tell you not many people go to the club or that they play techno music, those are facts!!! You can decide that you DO NOT want to go to that club because you only like hip-hop and they play techno! It's simple.

When it comes to movies and music, this is a very hard subject to grasp because people look at movie, album, etc. reviews all of the time. In my opinion and from experience, though, looking at these reviews and critics' opinions are a complete waste of time. Entertainment, at the end of the day, is art; it's how ever you want to take it. Some people think some things are funny, for example, while others don't. Based on this realization, nobody's opinion should be able to influence your opinion on any piece of entertainment (specifically movies and music). I cannot even tell you the amount of times I thought a movie was amazing, or extremely funny and enjoyable, that got a really low rating on IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes. Then again, I know these ratings are not necessarily advice, because it is only the critics' opinions; it's not like they're telling you to not watch the movie. However, many people literally decide right then and there that they will not watch a movie solely based on the fact that it got a low rating on a critic website.THIS HAS TO STOP.

My lesson here is: THINK FOR YOURSELF. Bill Gates, Mark Cuban, Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, and many other innovators had numerous people tell them not to start their business because it was a bad idea or that their business was not going to succeed. What if they had listened to those people? We would not have some of the most amazing innovations that have pushed the human race.

Look, advice is definitely good to listen to and consider. It helps you look at facts and think more. All I'm saying is, which is very different than what I wrote at the top (LOL): Do not let somebody's opinion about a subjective topic be the deciding factor in your decision. LOOK AT THE SITUATION FROM EVERY ANGLE!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
