Pretty much everyone in America has heard of the Black Lives Matter Movement.
It all started with several instances of police brutality on African American people. Some people may say the victims of this police brutality deserved it for not following orders, and maybe they weren't - but why is it that a white person can do the same things, if not worse, and still keep their life? This is a question everyone needs to be asking themselves. I don't care if you're for or against BLM, there is a real problem in our country and we need to fix it.
There are things like All Lives Matter, and Blue Lives Matter, and of course everyone's life matters, but that's not the point of Black Lives Matter. My life isn't in danger. I can get pulled over and I don't have to fear for my life. Stop supporting things like All Lives Matter, please. By supporting these, you're telling the victims and their families that what happened to them isn't important when it is. Losing a father, a son, a mother, or a daughter because of their skin color is not something that should be tolerated. If it was the other way around, things would be very different.
Another thing I keep seeing that honestly made me a little sick is when people say "black people can't complain because they kill each other". That has zero correlation to the BLM movement simply because even if they are killing each other, it's not because of their skin color. It's not because they're racist. Stop saying this, it doesn't even make sense and comes across as being extremely heartless towards the struggles that the African American community is going through.
There is honestly no way to ensure that racist people are kept out of the police force, but what I can say is that if you're a trained and armed police officer and someone's race scares you enough to kill them, you are not qualified or worthy to wear that badge.
Not enough is being done to stop police brutality. Black Lives Matter isn't taken as seriously as it should be, but why? America, we can do better. We have to do better. We are all together as a nation, we were all created by the same God, but still we are so incredibly divided.
To the families who have lost a loved one to police brutality, I am so sorry. My heart aches for your family. I can't imagine what you're going through, especially knowing that that officer probably won't be found guilty of their crimes. I promise to stand up for you when I need to, and I hope others will too.
Imagine your family member going out for something like gas or a gallon of milk, but then you discover that they were killed after being pulled over for speeding because of their race. You can't say that Black Lives Matter isn't important.
Racism is still very alive in our society. Please advocate for what's right. We owe it to the African American community, we have to stand up for them. Please do.
