Tattoos have been around for thousands of years. It's been dated back to 12000 B.C. People have been marking their bodies to show their stories. Still today tattoos are marked on people's bodies to show a significant meaning. A lot of people use body art as form of expression or a way to remember someone of something important in their lives. To some, including myself, tattoos are important.
The beauty of tattoos have changed over time. People who have tattoos are often seen as unprofessional or "trashy." I myself have tattoos, five to be exact, and while I'm not covered in them, I have some in places that have been deemed "unprofessional" by society, like my wrists.
My question is, why is something that was once seen as an art and a part of culture now seen as a negative thing? Why is it that someone who has tattoos is seen as unfit to do a job opposed to a person who doesn't have tattoos? Just because someone has chosen to put a piece of art on their body doesn't mean they aren't fit to perform a job. Hell, someone with tattoos may be more fit for a job than someone without.
I myself have experienced the negativity from people who don't find tattoos to be in their interests. I've had people tell me that I'll never get a job, I've been given dirty looks for my tattoos, and I've been told that I'll regret my tattoos in the future. Though, my personal favorite, is that I'll regret my tattoos on my wedding day.
I do my best to ignore the negativity and come back at them with a positive attitude, because I love my tattoos, each of them mean something special to me. I never have or ever will regret getting my tattoos, especially on a day as important as my wedding day. I can't wait to proudly show them off with the beautiful, white gown I'll chose one day. I believe that if an employer denies me a job because of my tattoos, then it's their loss.
Tattoos don't mean that someone is trashy or unprofessional. It doesn't make them a thug or unfit to do their job. People with tattoos don't judge people without tattoos. Both sides made a choice, so don't judge the other side for the one they made.
