Stop Judging Food Stamps

Help instead.

When most people hear "Food Stamps" they think of someone in a bad part of town who is trying to 'scam' the government. From my experience, this is not true most of the time. There are thousands of people out there who actually do need help or else their child is not going to eat that night. Please stop judging circumstances you don't know anything about.

Just because someone who receives Food stamps may not look or sound like they need help, in many cases they do. They may have running water, can do their laundry and take a shower, but that does not mean they don't need assistance in feeding themselves and their family. Many people who need help are ashamed and try to hide the fact they need it because there is such a negative reputation that surrounds it. No one should be ashamed in asking for help, so stop judging without knowing the facts.

You have no idea what may be going on in someone's life. Maybe the woman you are judging has three kids at home and her husband just died and she does not know how she is going to support her children. That mom may have not eaten for several days just so her family can eat and stay healthy. If she wants to splurge and not make her kids eat peanut butter and jelly three times a day please do not judge her. You don't like eating the same thing every single day so why should she. If she wants to buy a steak or crab legs and pay with her EBT card, do not roll your eyes. Maybe it's her child's birthday and this is much cheaper than going out to eat. Maybe her family hasn't had a decent meal in weeks, you do not know. She needs help for some reason or else she would not have that card.

No matter how much you think they give an EBT card out to anyone, does not make it true. It is actually a complicated process and normally you are given much less than you actually need. Do not make assumptions or judge the process until you have actually been through it. If you see someone at the store using an EBT card instead of rolling your eyes, help them out and buy an item for them. They may not take your assistance but that is not them trying to be rude, it is pride and they are ashamed.

Please stop judging people, and help instead.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
