Stop Hiding In Your Comfort Zone

Sometimes we have to do what scares the sh*t out of us.

Stop Hiding In Your Comfort Zone

The world is a scary place, full of big decisions. It is easy to live a life in fear, overshadowed by the possibility of making the wrong decision. It is easy to back away and hide in your safe place, to ignore the adventures of the world and stay in comfort. This is not how life was meant to be lived. God did not create this beautiful earth full of self-finding adventures for us to ignore it from the comfort of our own fear. The cold hard truth must be realized.

Sometimes we have to do what scares the sh*t out of us.

This little fact does not mean "go out and do dangerous things." You do not have to go jump out of an airplane, go swimming with sharks or even eat a worm like you're on Fear Factor. However, it does mean that you must be willing to push yourself outside of your normal boundaries.

So there is a possibility of an internship that will require you to live in another state for a few weeks by yourself? Do it. Has somebody done you wrong? Forgive them. Broken heart? Move on.

The littlest of things can require great strides, however, the payoff will be more than enough. By doing something outside of your comfort zone, you are allowing for personal growth. You are allowing yourself to become a better version of yourself, to stand outside of the societal constructs that are so eager to define us. By doing something that scares us, we are only adding to our own personal experiences. These personal experiences help us define ourselves, learn about ourselves, figure out our own identities. As we grow older and mature, it is important to find out who we are, what we believe in and what we stand for. We cannot discover these things if we spend our days hiding in the corner under this fear of doing wrong. We cannot discover these things if we live a routine, day-to-day life of flying under the radar.

We must force ourselves out into the world, to live and breath the adventures that our God above has set before us. We must trust in Him, in His plan. We must accept the fact that we might fail, but we must realize that failure is only another step towards greatness. It is good, even great, to fail. Failure builds character, morals and values. Failure teaches us lessons that cannot be found in success, rather, pushes us closer to it. Success is a goal that cannot be reached without stepping out from the comfort of our own homes, without the willingness to fail.

We have to be fearless in this beautiful, wonderful, scary world.

We must do the things that scare the sh*t out of us.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
