I swear to you I was born in the wrong region of America. I love the south.
I am intrigued by southerners outlook on life because I've come to find that it sure is different from northerners! Their way of life is so interesting to me, and the more I get to live down here the more I like it. I even go to school in the south, which is an experience in itself.
The south is just so beautiful to me. And I may be from the north, but I sure do love me some country music. Where I come from, it's repulsive. It's like nails up against a chalkboard. Gross.
But, I truly believe most of my friends, along with people back in my hometown, aren't even giving country music a chance. When they hear the words 'country music' they immediately think of cows, beer, and trucks. Sure, some country songs are about that, but those songs are fun.
Just listen to the lyrics! Songs like 'Cold One' by Eric Church and 'When It Rains It Pours' by Luke Combs are so fun I can't help but laugh every time I listen to them.
Cold One tells a story about the upset of a girl leaving Church, and taking a cold one with her. He's now short of a twelve pack!
Tragic.
'When It Rains It Pours' is a song about how a breakup ended up being the artist's saving grace. I mean he won $100 on a scratch off ticket and then got the last spot in the Hooters parking lot, what could be better than that?!
And that's another thing. If anything, country music tells a story. I hate to rip on other genres, but most other forms of music do not do this.
When is the last time you heard a rapper sing a story about his/her own life story, or true love, or heartbreak?
Although rap music may be fun, the majority of the time it just talks about sex and drugs. Country music will tell a story beginning to end.
My personal favorite example of this is the song 'Watching You' by Rodney Atkins, a song about his son growing up and wanting to be just like him. How sweet. Also 'All American Girl' by Carrie Underwood is a good one.
the moral of the story: stop hating on country music and just listen! You could catch yourself laughing at a verse or two, or catch yourself thinking "aweee".
