Let's Stop Focusing on Morality, Let's Focus on Policy

Elect a President based on their policy plans, not on something they said in the past.

The presidential debates between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are some of the most anticiptated and infamous debates since the first televised debates between Nixon and Kennedy.

This is completley understandable as the increase in social media use in culture since the last election has drasticaly increased the political conversation. This is a great thing. The world, and young people included should be discussing the important issues and who is the best person to help solve the issues. However, that is not exactly the conversation that is occurring on these social media sites. So far, the majority of the conversation surrounding this election has been blame, and character deformation. People of both parties are not discussing terrorism, taxes, social issues etc. Rather they are discussing the character of the two candidates. Yes, the President of the United States should be a person of high value and posess moral character, however liable articles, and deformation of character should not be the main topic of conversation in this election.

Everyone makes mistakes, and when you run for public office, those mistakes are exploited. Both of the candidates for president this election are guitly of saying things that they wish they hadnt, or committing crimes or mistakes in their personal lives that are not particularly relevant to the election. Frankly, I am concerned that the election has become a question of morality. People will not vote on election day for the person that they believe has the best policies to fix the problems that face our nation. Rather they will be voting for the person that they think has a higher moral standard. It does not matter who has the best foreign policy to handle the ISIS situaiton in the middle east. It only matters to voters that one candidate said obscene "locker room conversation" thirty years ago. It only matters to voters that another candidate lied and would say or do anything to become president.

There is no conversation about policy, especially in these presidental debates. I am sick of discussing character. I want to vote for the candidate that has the best ideas to help our country and to lead our country. Yes, morality should be a part of the decision, but lets focus less on character, and more on the person that has the best plans to fix our nation's problems.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
