Stop Dehumanizing Johnny Manziel

People tend to overlook the fact that we all make mistakes.

Stop Dehumanizing Johnny Manziel
Johnny Manziel

Cleveland sports was nothing to write home about up until recently. LeBron carried the Cavaliers to finals, but team injuries took their toll on the Cavs' roster and the Golden State Warriors won the NBA Finals. But before this, Johnny Manziel brought his talents to the LAND.

Johnny Football was soon Cleveland's new slogan, with hopes that Manziel would bring good vibes to the Browns' 2014 season. The Browns went 7 and 4 with a race to the playoffs. Manziel played once and ended the playoff chances for the Browns. Cleveland's hype of Johnny Football soon ended after one little mistake.

Johnny Manziel is a human. Humans are designed to make mistakes.

According to an article on espn.com, Manziel entered rehab earlier this year for personal reasons. Manziel entered rehab on his own terms and even turned down an invite to host a Super Bowl party in Vegas. This, of course, did not sit well with some Browns fans. People took to Facebook and Twitter to express their opinions on it. Some were supportive and some were not.

Over the summer, news of Manziel's time in rehab got buried by Lebron taking the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals. All was well in Cleveland.

However, as of a couple weeks ago, Northeast Ohio was "lit" on some recent Johnny Manziel news.

A video surfaced of Manziel partying with friends at bar. This is totally legal and he did nothing wrong. We've all ended up on someone's snap story at a bar, having a good time.

What I would like to say is that we should stop "party-shaming" Manziel. Yes, I made this term up on my own. However, people have been taking their opinions on said video to social media, making claims that Manziel is the worst thing to happen to the Browns and other similar comments. In one article published in a Cleveland suburb's newspaper, it said the Browns could not trust Manziel.

So, we are going to ridicule some poor, straight out-of-college athlete for messing up the first game he ever played? Then, we're going to attack him for his personal decisions and actions? Yes. So, Manziel went to rehab for personal reasons. It was never stated by Manziel or any NFL official that he went for alcohol abuse. However, we're going to assume that.

Let's take a walk in Manziel's shoes for this. You get put into your FIRST professional football game, ever. You mess it up. Then, you go to rehab to find yourself and re-establish your values. Then, a video of you having a good time with your friends surfaces, after people just assume the reason you went to rehab was related to alcohol issues. How would you feel if the media and fans continuously attacked you because of a mistake and two choices that people make every day? People, as in people who are not Johnny Manziel, would go crazy.

So, when you make a dumb decision then decide to bash Manziel, please remind yourself that he is just as human as you are. There are a number of things that you can complain about on social media instead of some guy doing typical guy things.

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
