The Dakota Access Pipeline is a proposed oil pipeline that is set to begin constructing in North Dakota on tribal land. Various members of Native American reservations have all gathered together to try to stop it. The Dakota Access Pipeline will run for 1,172 miles to transport oil North Dakota to Paboka, Illinois.

Hundreds of people went to Standing Rock reservation to protest the pipeline. Lakota and Dakota people from Native American reservations, and even celebrities like Shailene Woodley, have all voiced their opinion. The pipeline is set to travel through the sacred lands of the Lakota people, and go under the Mississippi, Missouri, and Big Sioux rivers. Spills are somewhat common occurrences, but they would contaminate farmland and drinking water for millions in the area. Protesters succeeded in halting the beginning stages of construction, but only temporarily.

The constructions of the pipeline will destroy burial sites and raises the concern for environmental disasters. The pipeline would fuel climate change and disturb wildlife.

Now with a Trump presidency, people are becoming more worrisome, and for good reason. President-elect Trump has called climate change a hoax and pledged to dismantle the Environmental Protection Agency. He has stated that he wants to take apart President Barack Obama's Clean Power Plan, which would cut carbon emissions from the nation's more than 7,500 power plants.

Tara Houska, a Ojibwe tribal member, has camped out at Standing Rock since August. She served as a Native American advisor to Bernie Sanders and is the National Campaign Director of Honor the Earth. Like the rest of America, she followed the election closely. Since Donald Trump was elected, she described the camps mood as very low. She stated that,"it was a moment where I was very, very afraid for our people."

Protesters have organized over 150 nationwide protests to show America that they will not stop fighting. People have begun to prepare for winter and are ready to fight- for Native American rights and for the halting of the Dakota Access Pipeline.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
