To all college students home for summer break: stop complaining about being bored.
It's been a week since I have been home for break and I have already heard college students whining at how bored they are at home. It's either, "There is nothing to do in [insert hometown]" or "I wish I was back at [insert college]" or the simple, "I am so bored here." Any way you say it, stop it.
Remember when you were at school and complaining about the amount of work to do, the papers to write and the exams to study for. And how could you forget about the misery you suffered through during finals week. You prayed to go home so that you didn't have to think about school anymore.
Well now you got your wish. You're finally home and now you are finding ways to complain about it.
Instead, enjoy the short three to four months you have at home. It will go by sooner than you think and then you will be on your way back to school. So enjoy the quiet as you sit alone at home. Spend time with your family and siblings you haven't seen in a few months. Reminisce about your college memories to your high school friends. Read a novel. Binge watch a series on Netflix. Go swimming in a lake or pool. Take a road trip. Go ride a bike. But please do not complain about being bored at home.
If you were at school you would complain about not being home. In short, appreciate what you have. If you are lucky enough to be home or with family and friends over the summer months, embrace it. Do not wish it away. And do not complain about being bored. There are plenty of things to do if you stop being so close minded for a minute.
