A major issue in our society today, and while it is being combated, the rate is still not going down. Some of that blame goes to the digital age, as it is now so easy to bully someone over the internet.
Both ways still matter, however. It is something that cannot be ignored in any way, because what most people do not realize is that there are severe long-term effects of bullying as well.
While the bullied person feels completely demeaned and helpless in the moment, that feeling will not go away when the bullying stops. It sticks with them, and whatever they do in life, it will still normally feel like it is not good enough. Some learn to turn this into motivation, to always get better, but others don't, and end up lost in the feeling.
They can be doing just fine, better than fine, and a small event can trip them up, solely because they have that feeling of being looked down upon. It seems many people do not see the lasting effect it can have on someone mentally.
This is something that has to stop. Now.
Whatever measures that need to be taken to stop bullying need to be taken, because clearly just raising awareness for it is not getting the job done. Whoever it is, make them understand.
Awareness about the subject shouldn't just be around one day, or one month (October), but every day.
