Stop, And Count Your Blessings

Too many times I have overlooked my blessings...

Stop, And Count Your Blessings
Selena Barnett

So many times we get caught up in our daily lives and with what we are doing, and we just forget to think about our blessings. We complain when things do not go our way (so guilty of that) and we take what we have for granted. We say we are too busy to take a break or to just breathe. I mean, have you ever heard the saying, "Take time to stop and smell the roses?" I've heard it many times. So, I decided to stop and count my God-given blessings, and here are just a few of them.

1. I have a place to call home.
2. I have a warm bed to sleep in.
3. I have a beautifully decorated bedroom.
4. I have three meals a day.
5. I have clean water to drink.
6. I have a loving grandmother who raised me.
7. I have many siblings.
8. I have a group of people I can call family.
9. I have more than enough clothes to last a lifetime.
10. I have shoes on my feet.
11. I have a place to shower and be clean.
12. I have air conditioning and heat in my home.
13. I have a job.
14. I have a great boss.
15. I have a high school diploma.
16. I have been given scholarships to be debt free for college.
17. I'm in college.
18. I have a great support system.
19. I have a car.
20. I have money to spend freely.
21. I have an amazing boyfriend.
22. I know what love feels like.
23. I know what pain feels like.
24. I have some of the greatest friends I could have ever asked for.
25. I have a faith.
26. I can freely practice my Christianity in the United States.
27. I have the freedom to choose what I want to become.
28. I am going to be a godmother to two great girls.
29. I have strength.
30. I have knowledge.
31. I have wisdom.
32. I was raised to have a kind heart.
33. I can do community service.
34. My hip injury has healed nicely.
35. I was blessed with beauty.
36. My family is middle class.
37. I have not experienced poverty.
38. I have good health.
39. I have a good metabolism.
40. I do not get sick often.
41. I woke up this morning.
42. I get to sleep every night in my own bed.
43. I am loved deeply by others.
44. I believe in God.
45. I believe in blessings.

All of those. All of those blessings. I did not even realize as I was writing this that those things were blessings. It is seriously amazing to just stop and think about the things we have all been blessed with in our lives.

I just stopped on my lunch break at work to think about it. I came up with 45 blessing in 20 minutes. Imagine if we take five minutes every night before we all go to bed to just think about the blessings we received today, I'm sure there would be at least eight things a day for me that I could think of instantly.

So stop and count your blessings daily, and be grateful for everything you have been given in life. Each good thing is a blessing, and each bad thing is blessing, because they all came from God.

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
