All The Reasoning You Need To Still Be A 'Lovatic' For Demi Lovato

She is a strong warrior, but she is only human.

"I want to be a role model but I am only human."

One of the many great lines from Demi Lovato's latest hit song "Sober" that reflects on how this young star has dealt with many pressures in her life that led to many difficulties and obstacles. On Tuesday, June 25th, the singer was hospitalized from an apparent drug overdose after almost six years of sobriety. There is very little information about her state but it is satisfying to know that she is awake and stable and with her loving family. Demi Lovato has expressed many times that she is concerned for the fans that she lost due to her past and now current mishaps, but this article is about why you should continue to be a fan during this time.

Demi Lovato has been in the limelight since a very early age, starting her acting career on Barney and Friends and turning into one of the most popular Disney stars. However, it is no secret that this young woman's life has always been in the headlines. Whether it is her going to rehab to seek the help she needed, hitting the top charts for her award-winning songs, coming out as bisexual, or now hitting a low moment. However, as Demi sings, she is only human and is no different than anyone else.

Many are taking this dark relapse as a way to criticize, hate, and ridicule Demi, of course ignoring how far she has come.

This is a woman in her mid-twenties that has overcome addiction, severe mental illnesses and disorders, and traumatic life events. She pushed past these setbacks and built a successful and busy career where she gets to perform for adoring fans, and express herself through her songs and platform. I have personally attended one of her concerts back in 2014 where Demi took a break in her performance to tell the fans that she does not want to be idolized for her failures and rough encounters. But to be admired for the person she had become and the music she creates. She wanted who she was in that moment to inspire others, not what she had battled in her past.

This new and overwhelming obstacle should not be any different. Demi Lovato made a mistake like so many of us do. How many times have you personally be trying to overcome something? Whether it is exactly what Demi is going through with addiction or if it's something as little as not texting an ex or eating extra portions on a diet. Everyone has gone through something that they struggle to still conquer every day. No one is perfect. Not even a celebrity.

So before you sit and criticize someone going through a rough patch in your life, sit back and think. How similar am I to this person? Have I gone through something like this before? As Demi has said in many wonderful songs, she is a strong warrior but she is only human. Let us hope for a speedy recovery and healthy life from here on out.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
