Tattoos are starting to become more popular in today's culture, but there is still a negative stigma with tattoos. I have four tattoos of my own and seeing the negative aspects of tattoos stinks. Having tattoos is not a bad thing. Tattoos are an expression of who you are, something to remember something by or just to have. Every tattoo I have has a meaning behind it. I got these done so that I will always have memories of these specific things. The one on my back shoulder is for my Grandfather who passed away from cancer, one of my ankles is for my pets I have had growing up, the other is an elephant just because I like elephants and my final tattoo I have is on my foot is an elephant in a mandala. You may say, "why I would waste money on getting these?" But, they all have meanings to me and that's all that matters.
This negative stigma that tattoos have is ridiculous. It's not so much my "parents generation" that does not like tattoos, it's more of the older generation. I know that getting tattoos many years ago was not a thing, you were probably looked at differently or thought of as a rebel. This sort of sticks today in a way. Even though tattoos are starting to get more accepted in today's society, they still have a long way to go before they are fully accepted. Workplaces are the biggest obstacle for people who have tattoos. I know from working with the public that some people do not like the idea of tattoos or want to see them. Although, as tattoos get more popular, workplace environments are going to have to change their policies because many people from my generation will have them. Tattoos do not affect how a person works or how intelligent they are. Tattoos should not be the determining factor on someone getting a job. It should only matter on their resume and qualifications, not their tattoos.
I know that when I go to get a job it may be hard to get a job or people may look at me differently, but I like tattoos and I have plans on getting more. I wish tattoos are more accepted in today's society. They have become more acceptable over time and as time goes on they will hopefully be fully acceptable.
