When a woman behaves wildly or appears to be overly attached, society assumes it is because she grew up without a father. Yes, there are some women that will blame it on such a situation and believe that their issues are because of their father not being present. But let me tell you something, I am not that way. I know a lot of other people who do not behave as others think they should due to their father not being in their lives.

When explaining that we grew up without one, there are three kinds of people we may come across:

The Overly-Apologetic Guilt-Driven Person

They don't mean any harm. They're normally really sweet and just can't imagine what life would be like without their father.

This guy

or

This one.

The last two are less common, but nonetheless, all three have something in common-they acknowledge the negative stigma attached to that statement.

Due to societal expectations and views, yes, it is very hard to ignore that. But don't always equate that to our behavior. We're not all emotional wrecks. Psychologically, it can be valid, but other times, it isn't, such as for me. For example, I grew up without my father. He was in and out of my life for about a year, and occasionally popped up to a prom, send-off, or graduation party, but those were just mere appearances as that of an estranged aunt or cousin. Anyway, he was never really around nor helped raise me and my brother. My teenage mother and grandmother raised us, and regardless of their circumstances, they raised me just fine. My mother and grandmother raised me into the young woman that I am today: strong, intellectual, cultured, conscious, and growing to be more outspoken by the day. And if nobody else is proud of us, I am.

Furthermore, let's take a look at some amazing individuals that grew up without a father AND STILL have been extremely positive influences in the world:

Barbra Streisand

Streisand is a multi-talented actress, singer, songwriter, and filmmaker. She has a six-decade long career and a strong one at that. She continues to inspire young girls and aspiring theatre majors everywhere.

Mary J. Blige

While yes, the singer, songwriter, record producer and actress has had a long, crazy life, she always rose from the ashes. She's proven herself to be one strong, hard-working woman. Even when Beyonce decides to retire, Mary J. will probably still be making music to help heal the soul.

Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys is a singer, songwriter, actress and pianist. She's such a giving, loving soul who spreads positivity through music, activism, and service to the public.

Oh, did I mention we happen to excel in the arts?

Kelly Rowland

Spectacular.

Lisa Bonet

Classic.

Jill Scott

Iconic.

These next people aren't women but they're worth mentioning...

Kevin Hart

Jet Li,

Samuel L. Jackson,

BARACK OBAMA.

Think of those I listed above and see who we could be.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
