It seems that when the New Year comes around the gym is packed full with people who want to start their fitness journeys. I love seeing all the new people there, seeing everyone who wants to better themselves and their lives.
The only sad thing about it is that a lot of people don't stick around. I don't know if it's because they just aren't having fun or if they think it's too hard but I have solutions for all of it.
So if it's not fun then you should just try something else. If you're running and you are just hating your life while you run, try biking. Or get on the elliptical, or try a Zumba class. Working out should be fun and you should enjoy it, so keep trying until you find something you like.
You also can force yourself to enjoy it if you try hard enough. Think about all the amazing health benefits of what you're doing -- you can reduce your risk of many diseases, heart failure, increase your confidence, improve memory, sleep better and many more benefits. Not to mention the weight loss and/or muscle gains if that's what you're doing it for. When I workout, sometimes I think, "damn Court you're gonna look so hot after this," and sometimes it works. Other times, I think about how it's going to better me for my PT test or how running those 3 miles might make me live longer.
That's another thing that you need when doing this whole fitness thing -- motivation. You should find something or a reason behind why you are doing this and just keep reminding yourself of it every time you want to quit. Then when it does get hard, which it will, you have something to focus on.
Another thing that helps with getting and staying fit is having really cute workout gear. If you feel you look good even though you're getting all sweaty and gross, it betters your mood and it'll make you want to stay. You may be miserable and sweaty, but at least you look good.
All in all, this incredible fitness journey that was picked to be a New Year's Resolution should stick and it should be fun and make you a healthier you. It shouldn't be something you should want to give up in a few weeks. Stick it out and change your life for the better.
