We’ve all heard the tired claim about New Year’s Resolutions never holding up. And I can definitely say that year and year again, I set specific, quantifiable goals, like “lose 15 pounds” or “spend less than $50 a week” or “get a 4.0.” And year and year again, I ditch my resolution by February.
But there is something beautiful and exciting about setting out to do something.
Maybe rather than setting numerical goals or lofty, slightly unattainable visions, we should focus on abiding by mantras.
Mantras developed for us, by us.
These mantras should encourage behavior, not dictate it. Rather than something like “Go to the gym every day,” it could be “She believed she could, so she did.”
These mantras should be consistently reminded so they can always be top of mind.
A way that I'm trying to reinforce my mantra is by wearing a ring with a quote or symbol that serves as a constant reminder. Every time I look down at my hand? Reminded.
Here are some rings with shopping links to Etsy to get you thinking:
Try using a symbol to enforce your mantra:
Inspire yourself. And happy 2018!
