The nation seems to be in an uproar over Melania Trump's plagiarized speech. The media has latched onto this speech faux pas without any sign of releasing their jaws anytime soon. I think that the media should move on and focus on the more important speech thus far at the Republican National Convention. A speech that rocked the nation. A speech more important than that of Melania Trump, Mike Pence and even the big D himself.
Stephen Colbert. No other stars could align to speak...and Colbert wasn't even invited.
There's no better party crasher for the biggest political party in the United States than Stephen Colbert himself. The "Late Night" host decided to hijack the mic in the convention center in Cleveland on Sunday to poke fun at the GOP nominee. He also decided to hold his own "Hungry For Power Games," based off of none other than "The Hunger Games."
Colbert does what he does best and channeled his own Caesar Flickerman, based off of the character in The Hunger Games who hosts the deadly competition, and called himself Julius.
He began his roast with "Welcome to the arena, citizens, so grand it can almost hold Donald Trump's entire head." He further joked that "the red carpet, of course, is here to hide the rivers of blood that will eventually pour down from the cornucopia when Donald Trump, flanked by his two eunuchs, takes to the stage." By "eunuchs" he meant House Speaker, Paul Ryan, and RNC Chairman, Reince Priebus.
Julius and his pet weasel, Caligula, took the stage, unannounced, and began to mock Trump's pick for VP, proclaiming that he had "formed an alliance" with Governor Mike Pence. As any good Hunger Games host would do, he declared the launch of the "2016 Republican National Hungry for Power Games."
Less than a minute later, Julius and Caligula were escorted off stage, ending the most entertaining moment of the entire RNC week. Security couldn't escort him off stage before he shared his final jab. "Look, I know I'm not supposed to be up here," he said. "But let's be honest. Neither is Donald Trump."
Stephen Colbert 2016 anyone?
