Thank You To the Stepdad, Who Loves Me Like His Own

I want to start off by saying thank you, I know that I don't say it enough to you, nor do I tell you I love you enough. When you came into my life I was around 10-11 I think. I had a feeling that you were gonna continue to be in my life forever. I will admit at first it wasn't easy accepting you into my life, but you were probably the best thing to happen to me. You showed my mom love and made her happy, and you were a strong male figure in my life, someone that I could look up to. I know that when you met me I wasn't the easiest kid, not that I was a bad kid, I just did not know how to handle all the changes happening around me. I know that you have helped provide for me in ways that I don't even know but am grateful for. With you coming into my life I also gained three new siblings, and even though at times we disagree or don't get along I do love and care for them and am grateful they are in my life. You also brought along a dog, who at first I was scared of, but now love her to death.

Since I met you, you were always there for me and became the father figure I needed in my life. When other's stepped back and didn't show up you did. Thank you for coming to my softballs game, being there for me when I was in the hospital with lice, coming to my sixth-grade graduation, my chorus concerts, my high school graduation, and all the other times that you showed up when other's didn't. Thank you for driving me to work and picking me up, for driving me back and forth to Boston when I don't want to take the bus, and for taking me to my doctor's appointments. Most of all though thank you for loving me like I am your own. Thank you for letting me make my own mistakes in life, but also giving me guidance so I don't make other mistakes. Thank you for believing in me, even when I don't believe in myself. Thank you for all the times you give me advice, and I know sometimes you think I may not listen or get what you are saying but I do. I just don't always want to listen. I know that we don't always agree on things but I am so grateful for you and everything you have taught me. I love you.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
