On August 19, 2016 the brand new Samsung Note 7 was released for public sale. Less than a month later on September 15, 2016 a recall was sent to all Samsung customers who purchased this phone. Apparently there is a defect that makes the mobile device spontaneously combust... Yep, you read that right. They are catching on fire. FIRE!!!
Samsung sent out a message to the users of the Note 7 saying to power the device as soon as possible. Apparently there is a problem with some of the batteries. They tend to overheat and catch fire. Samsung says that this defect is believed to affect only 0.1% of users. They are currently trying to figure out how to do the recall since around 2.5 million customers are believed to have bought this device.
Opinion time....
I personally am not a die hard Samsung or Apple user. I like both of them but this makes me like Samsung just a little less. The sad thing i, that this is not the first time this has happened. I can remember a few years back a girl was charging her phone while she slept and it caught on fire. This past week a woman in Painesville, Ohio left her phone charging while she went to the store and it caught fire. She came home to the fire department at her house putting out the fire.
All of these cases have had something to do with the battery. Maybe, just maybe, Samsung should think about putting better quality batteries in their products. This is totally not okay. Samsung users should not have to live with the fear that at any time, whether charging their phone or not, that it is going to spontaneously combust.
Now like I said I am not an "Apple or die" kind of person or a "Samsung or die" kind of person. I believe that every new phone that is released is going to have issues. We can see this with the release of the iPhone 7 as well as the iOS 10 update recently released but, when things start exploding and catching on fire, that changes the circumstances just a little bit. There is a difference in having a few minor issues with the way things run and having the devices be dangerous and potentially harmful to the users.
Come on Samsung. Step up. Fix your issues. Let's stop putting your users in danger because you use a cheaper option.
