In case you've been living under a very unfashionable rock, you know that last night was the annual Met Gala, one of the biggest nights of the year in the fashion world, hosted by none other than Vogue. While co-chair Taylor Swift walked away with the accolade of Best Dressed and the internet was abuzz over Clare Danes' light-up dress by Zac Posen, there seems to be little mention of one of my personal favorite looks of the night.

Maybe its because I found many of the gowns lackluster when compared to the past few years (Rihanna's look last year, pictured above, is hard to beat), or maybe its because I tend to be very detail oriented and an accessories girl at heart, but one of my personal favorite looks from the night wasn't Beyoncé's, Taylor Swift's, or any member of the Kardashian family's, but rather Diane Von Fursetenberg's butterfly hair accessories, a look that so far has been chronically slept on.

In true DIY Queen fashion, my mind instantly went to how I could emulate Furstenberg's look for myself in a way thats more suited to rushing to class than to slaying at the Met Gala, and of course, in a way thats cost effective.

For a more low-key adaptation of the look, a quick search on Etsy delivers lots of cost-effective options such as this butterfly pin, which could easily be converted to a barrette with a bit of hot glue and an alligator clip (the kind on the backs of hair bows).

It would also look great affixed to a beret and worn with a pair of retro glasses, à la Gucci.

If you wanted to mimic the look as much as possible and choose the size and color of your butterflies, you can go full-DIY. You can follow this tutorial from the Patron Saint of DIY, Martha Stewart, but instead attach the butterflies to an alligator clip. Add wire between the clip and butterfly for a really dramatic look. Since not all of us are fortunate enough to have red carpet events to attend, you can sport your butterflies to a formal event, the grocery store, or wherever you damn-well-please.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
