Do you ever wonder if you have crossed the point of no return with God? Maybe you have made a series of bad decisions. Maybe you have sinned and you feel that there is no return from it. Maybe life is hitting you hard and you are doubting and questioning God. Maybe you cannot feel him working in your life or situation. Maybe you wonder why God would love you when you fail him often. Let me reassure you, even if it does not feel like it, God is steadfast and faithful.
I know it may not feel like it right now. I know. I have made decisions that were difficult to bounce back from. Life has hit me hard at times. Sometimes I have doubted God. Sometimes I have questioned why he would still love me and work in my life after I have failed him so repeatedly. I have questions that are unanswered, and sometimes I don't understand why life is not working out as I have perfectly planned it in my mind. Even the most focused Christians fail and doubt.
So, guess what? You are normal if you are feeling any of these things. You are human, and that is okay!
Let's get back to the idea of God being steadfast and faithful. What does that really mean?
Throughout the Bible – and especially in Psalms is a recurring theme of God's faithfulness and steadfastness. Here are some of my favorite examples of this theme from the Psalms:
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.” Psalm 136:1
“Hear my voice in accordance with your love; preserve my life, Lord, according to your laws.” Psalm 119:149
The Bible is full of these encouraging promises.
Now, let's break down these words a little more. According to dictionary.com, steadfast means “resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering.” Similarly, faithful means, loyal, stable, dependable and devoted. Other words that have similar meanings are true, trusty, solid...you get the idea...
So, are you getting the picture that is presented here? It's pretty amazing. Let's go back to the situations I discussed before. Have you made decisions you regret that you feel you can never rebound from? God is still faithful. Do you feel that you've sinned so much that God could never forgive you? His love never stops and he is steadfast. Is life hitting you hard, to the point that you are questioning your life and God? He is resolutely by your side. Do you wonder how God could love you even though you fail him daily? His love is unwavering and follows you through even the darkest of times.
You see, that is the beauty of serving God. We all mess up. We sin. We doubt. We fail. We do this because we are human. God is not human though. Where we would give up, he stays firm and keeps working, loving and pursuing us.
You are not alone, because he is steadfast.
