One of my biggest issues is staying organized at school. Starting off, sure, I'm as organized as organized can get, but sooner or later, I start to use my planner less and less. Those due dates become "What?!" dates. My essays become closer and closer to the minimum word count. You guys know the drill. It's hard to keep up a demanding routine, especially during such a stressful time as school. Here are some things I've tried over the years that really help keep me on top of things, whether it's school or homework or even planned events.
Desk Calendars
They're extremely useful, but here's the thing: don't put it on your desk. I love to tape my desk calendar to the wall next to the door, because desk calendars are huge compared to the standard calendar size. I also like to choose a cute calendar that's aesthetically pleasing so I don't mind looking at it so much, as due dates can be pretty intimidating. Organize things on your calendar with a color key to keep note of what's important and what's more of a 'if I have time' thing. Use cute pastel colors to 'X' out days as they pass, and put important due dates down so they're right in front of you. I usually use my pastel Sharpies, found at most stores, and my Zebra Glitter Kirarich Highlighters, which are sold on Amazon and Jetpens!
Buy stationary that captures your attention.
If there's a subject you really don't like, buy a really irresistible folder and/ or notebook for it! The fact that there's a character or design on the calendar that you really like might motivate you to study or take notes more. Also, use a nice pen or pencil for that subject too! Associate the subject with good things, and give yourself incentives for studying the subjects that irritate you the most.
Planners
They help you keep track of what's due the next class period and what's due in class periods to come. They're really helpful, especially for people who are forgetful such as myself. Once again, find a planner that resonates with your personality and style. You're bound to use it more if you actually like how it looks. Boring planners aren't going to grab your attention like an interestingly patterned one would.
These are the main things I do and use to stay organized during the school year. This list may be better for people who remember things and like to use things with more visual appeal versus people who simply just 'get things done'. I hope this helped!
