This time of year is known for the Christmas feasts, decadent desserts, and New Year's cocktails. Staying healthy during the holiday season can be difficult, but it doesn’t have to be.
Find balance.
Do not deprive yourself. This is the time of the year to treat yourself and splurge on treats that you don’t get year-round. The best way to keep healthy during this time of the year is by finding a balance between the treats and healthy alternatives. Allow yourself to enjoy some cookies, but don’t forget to drink plenty of water and get your serving of fruits and veggies.
Find new ways to stay active.
This time of year is meant to be spent with your family and friends; include them in your daily exercise. Go on family walks around the neighborhood, go bike riding along the beach, even take a trip to an indoor trampoline park for a fun and active afternoon. Exercising doesn’t have to be a burden, make it a fun time to bond with family or friends.
Set goals.
Don’t wait until January 1st to set resolutions for yourself, start today! When you set goals, make sure that they are SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely. For example, a goal to “lose 5 pounds by March 1st” is a lot more specific and reasonable than a goal to “lose weight”. If your goals are SMART, you will know when to achieve them by, and you will know that it is reasonable for you to achieve them. They don’t have to be anything crazy, just little achievements to keep you healthy and happy.Happy Holidays!
