1. Find a ministry where you feel at home.
Here you will meet lots of people who are going through the same thing as you. Other freshman that are missing home, friends and trying to figure out the college thing as well. But you will also meet upperclassmen who have been there, done that. They have gone through the adjustment period of being away from home and figuring out study methods that best work for you. What's great is that all the students here have on big thing in common, their love for Jesus Christ.
2. Seek accountability.
This person/group doesn't have to be someone from your ministry. It can be someone from home, your roommate, a floor mate, anyone that you feel comfortable with quite honestly. It's really important that you have that person that you can go to to talk about what's going on in your life.
3. Surround yourself with positive influences.
A lot of people come to college and want to drink, do drugs and have sex. But not everyone is like that. There are lots of students out there who come to college with the intention of learning and not wanting the party scene. While it may be harder to find these students, they are out there. It's okay if they aren't Christian, but these people are the type of people that aren't going to drag you to that party that you really had no interest in going to to begin with. And who knows, maybe you will be able to witness to them and show them the love of Christ.
4. As cliche as this one it, make sure you keep praying.
Prayer is an important part of your relationship with God. It helps keep you on the same page. You don't have to be praying every minute of every day, but saying a short prayer at some point of each day can have a huge impact.
