Stay True to Yourself

One day you'll look back and thank yourself

Stay True to Yourself
Molly Kellner

Being true to yourself is the number one way to ensure your own happiness. If you allow people to change you into something that you are not, you will lose yourself. People come and go in our lives but, we never leave ourselves behind. Things change everyday and so do people but, only you can decide to change. If some one loves you or wants to be your friend they will stick with you for you. Who cares if you still love a children’s cartoon or crazy colored clothing. That is what makes you, you.

It seems so strange to think that you should follow the crowd or try to fit in. You can fit in as yourself. You may even find the people that you want in your life for a long time by being yourself. Changing yourself will only lead you to unhappiness. Sure you may lose contact with the people you changed yourself for, but I promise you it will all be worth it.

Look at yourself in the mirror and ask, “who am I really and who do I really want to be?” Whatever you feel or say is how you want to be, how you should be. It is so key to always always stay the person you are. It may be hard to do in high school. When you are young all you care about is having lots of friends and being well liked. I promise you it all fades and those people move on with their lives. You’ll hardly see most of the people you grew up with when you go away to school. In college you start with a clean slate. Make that slate a canvas of your life. Let the world see who you truly are. Be the person you are longing to be. You will be so happy.

And I promise you will find tons of new and lifelong friends. You will be so surprised at what the world as to offer when you focus more on it and not about what other people think of you.

I’m not saying drop all your friends and start over, but just take a look at yourself and make sure you are happy with you.

Your happiness should be above all other things. Go out and explore the world and do all of the things you love. I promise one day you’ll look back and be so glad that you stayed true to yourself.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.
