It's the time of the year when you are starting to run out of steam. But, you know you still have a lot to do before the semester comes to an end. With all the work piling up, it can be difficult to stay motivated, especially when the weather starts to get a little nicer. Here are just a few ways to tackle, in my case what I like to call "senioritis," or end-of-the-semester blues in general:
1. Make a schedule.
Even if you're not an organized person, this may be something new to try as the semester winds down. Creating a schedule will not only help you stay on top of work, but will even allow you to make time for fun activities as well.
2. Exercise.
Staying healthy is always important. But, physical activity is not only a great way to stay fit and get that summer beach body, it also allows you to take your mind off of work and feel less stressed.
3. Take breaks.
It's okay to step away from schoolwork. Just make sure you stick to your schedule and don't lose complete focus of what you still have left to do.
4. Set goals and reward yourself.
Setting goals of what you plan to complete by the end of the semester, and knowing that there is a reward at the end of the finish line, can certainly help you stay motivated. Personally, I am motivated to finish my thesis project and am looking forward to end of the semester celebrations as I get closer and closer to graduating.
5. Change it up. Change where you study and maybe even who you study with.
If you get easily bored or distracted while studying, maybe it's time to pick a new study location when preparing for finals. Try a new coffee shop with friends, or even outside somewhere. Take a step away from your desk and see if that makes any difference.
6. Remind yourself how much you've accomplished so far.
You've worked so hard to get where you are now and you don't want to let all that hard work go to waste.
7. Get some sleep.
Sleep is important. Now is not the time to stay up binge-watching a new show. Netflix, however, can definitely be a reward.
8. Be positive.
Don't think about the possibility of getting a bad grade. You should be proud of yourself if you are putting in effort and be happy that you are getting a college education that is well-deserved.
9. Be inspired.
This can mean getting creative or going for a walk and taking in all of your surroundings. Your mind needs a break too and it can be nice to enjoy some fresh air once in a while instead of being in the library all day.
10. Find support in your friends.
Your friends are going through the same thing and if you are there to support each other and motivate each other, the end of the semester may not seem all that bad.
11. Breathe.
Take a deep breath and relax. You can do this. Now, stay motivated and finish the semester on a positive note.
