Let’s face it: when late November hits and it’s freezing cold outside, the last thing on your mind is working out. I personally get SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder, and yes, the emotion as well) during the winter months, which causes me to just want to lay in bed and eat comfort food while watching Netflix. Even though that makes me feel better for a few hours, I eventually start to feel unhealthy and unhappy from a lack of positive, healthy lifestyles. The good news is that you don’t have to feel unhealthy and unhappy during the winter! Here are some great tips for staying healthy and happy when it’s cold.
1. Try new recipes - I love to cook and when the weather is gross, it's even more fun to do some trial and error cooking in the kitchen. The best part about trying new recipes is that you can practice making healthy foods and desserts, which will not only be fun but will also make you feel better about yourself.
2. Volunteer - The best way to get into the holiday spirit is to help others in need. Volunteering with different organizations during the wintertime can be fun and it will keep your mind working so that you don’t feel lazy.
3. Take Zumba/Dance classes - Signing up to take Zumba or other dance classes at a local gym can be a great way to exercise while having fun! Dance classes are held inside so you can stay warm while you dance. Everyone you’re dancing with will probably be getting into the holiday spirit, too!
4. Throw holiday parties - Who doesn’t love Secret Santa parties? Throwing fun cocktail parties can get everyone in a positive mood and help you reconnect with old friends and family members.
5. Start crafting - What’s more fun than participating in your own DIY projects from Pinterest? Crafting is a great way to exert energy and keep your brain working so that you can stay focused and busy. It’s also a great time to relax and do something productive.
6. Spend quality time - The holidays are all about spending quality time with friends and family who are in town. Make the most of your season by coming together with everyone to have some fun and laughs. Laughing burns calories, too!
