So everyone knows about this strike that is happening at the 14 state schools across Pennsylvania. Well, here's the thing, it does not just affect the professors and administration; it affects the students, too.
A majority of students do not have any classes and only some students have one or two classes. For seniors, this is big, because they are to graduate in either December or May. For certain majors, this is a huge setback on their curriculum, and for others, it is just a waste of time not learning in the classroom. Whether you know it or not, college students take their education seriously, for the most part. When you are paying a tremendous amount of money to set in your dorm room, at the library, or at home, it is upsetting. When will it end?
As a student, what can we do? We can support our professors, we can support the APSCUF, or we can just not care. But, we all care, deep down. Sure, you see those memes and pictures going around that say IUP is partying, SRU is exercising, Clarion is mud diving, and Edinburg is sword fighting, but there is so much more happening than what the media portrays. Students are worried for their education...the education that we are losing. We want to take a stand for ourselves, at this point, but how?
Personally, I believe that both sides need to go to the 'negotiation table,' have a seat, and handle this situation as adults. We need to wait playing the "they owe me this" and "the need to do this" game, and just own up that some things, not everyone can have, and that some things need to be given. I came here for an education, and an education is what I deserve.
