Star Trek: Picard Is The Must-See Show of 2020

Star Trek: Picard may feel like a dark horse of the new 2020 shows but it will definitely steal your heart!

It was very tempting to discredit the show as "here comes another Star Trek spin-off", especially as someone who paid the most attention to the original series. However, Star Trek: Picard did an impressive job of creating a stand-alone story and world that didn't necessitate knowing any Star Trek at all. Of course, for fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation, you'll gain a whole new level of feelings from the heart-wrenching scenes and seamless nods to the series. Don't start it expecting only action-packed maneuvers; you're in for a drama full of tears and love, as well!

Star Trek: Picard takes place in Picard's retirement years but you'll quickly be transported to flashbacks as past choices and conspiracies catch up to him. Some familiar faces and some new well-fleshed out characters come together in the present as a ragtag crew as Picard takes to space again to save the galaxy. Every character is very three dimensional from the start and there is a huge spread of backgrounds, talents, and personalities. The sub-plots and backstories that weigh at each member of the crew touch on a variety of life and social issues that are easily relatable. Get ready for some tear-jerkers! There's an overarching focus on synthetic life, which may be a familiar topic for sci-fi fans but is portrayed with the unique touch of Star Trek. Even if you aren't usually a sci-fi person, this series' topic, plot, and struggles are very down-to-earth despite the many other-world settings.

Another interesting factor is the added touch of gay representation in a leading character. While terms like love are explicitly said, the series does present it in a way that can leave room for question and interpretation, however they do not shy away from plastering the hints at the forefront. I think it was pretty safe for the audience to view the relationship in this way. You'll have to watch it to see if you draw the same conclusion!

Star Trek: Picard was more than another Star Trek series or even another sci-fi show. All the bases I wanted covered made it by the end and the motley crew dynamics felt familiar and satisfying. Ups, downs, sad moments, romantic moments, exciting fight scenes, engaging dialogue: Picard had it all!

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
