Every New Year's you hear the typical "New Year, New Me." Well, you don't necessarily have to make a new you. Everyone is unique and great in their own way. However, if change seems good to you, then pursue it.
To start, make yourself a list of goals you want to achieve. For the most part, everyone wants the same thing: success, wealth, and a perfect body. The thing is that if you plan a goal, you need to make small strives to achieve it. For instance, success-wise, write down your daily achievements. Say your in college: to be more successful, you can dedicate more time to your studies. Taking it a step further, befriend your professors. That connection or even friendship can lead you to understanding material more thoroughly and can open doors in your career path.
On the vanity point, take little steps that lead to great strides. If you want that beach body, you need to work for it. Start small so you don't discourage yourself. These small steps will lead you on a path to your goal. Even if you don't necessarily want the perfect, chiseled body, exercise is important and will make you feel better and healthier.
We all need to realize that beauty isn't everything, too. We don't need to impress people with things like this. I know this one is hard because I too suffer from wanting to look perfect. If changing your appearance makes you happy, then continue to do it. This year, spend less money on your appearance. Imagine all of the money you can save spending that hard-earned money on experiences and memories rather than expensive creams, fancy clothes, and makeup. However, learning to love yourself without the the high-maintenance beauty regimen will only make yourself happier in the end. Looks aren't everything.
There are also many other things you can do to help you de-clutter your life. Take toxic relationships out of your life. You don't need to start the new year with people that don't appreciate your worth. Moreover, try to cut toxic habits. This can be smoking, excessive drinking, or any habit that you dislike. Destroy these things with positive outcomes.
In addition, if you are happy with yourself, then think of ways you can improve your good life. There is always room for improvement. Remember that nothing is more important than your own happiness. If you enjoy binge-watching Netflix or gardening, spend more time doing it. Continue that hobby that you love. Even try to find something new and exciting to add to your life. Find time to travel, learn about something new, spend time in nature, and continue to do what you love.
2016 is a fresh page in another chapter of your life. Make this the year where you are happy. Start this year off with positive relationships with your friends and loved ones. Do what you love. If you want change, pursue it. Think of all the things you can accomplish within the year with a positive attitude, and do whatever you can to achieve your goals. The only thing stopping you is yourself.
