Start Being Kind Now

My social media feed is filled with hate and I'm not happy

I don’t know if you have a social media feed like me, but you probably do. A feed that’s been filled with so much hate and people that used to be friends turning on each other throughout this whole election process. Well, the election is over and America’s next president has been declared.

Here’s what needs to happen now, kindness. Kindness needs to happen right now and it needs to start with you. You can share your political stance all you want, but do not attack the opposite party. You do not need to do that. I honestly want to cry because I have to write an article on this. An article to remind you to be kind.

Do you remember in kindergarten when we got stickers for being kind, and we got a designated time for naps and snacks? I think it’s time we reinstate those practices. Set aside time for naps and snacks, after all, that is the time where you are taking care of yourself. But don’t forget about that sticker, make sure to be kind and earn that sticker.

Aesop wrote in the story “The Lion and the Mouse,” “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” Aesop died in 564BC. It’s been over 2,000 years and this is still a lesson a lot of people need to learn. So, let me tell you about some things that can be considered acts of kindness; not writing something mean on social media, holding a door for someone, sharing food, smiling at someone, not posting a mean reply to something on social media, picking up something someone dropped, listening to music with headphones while in public, not starting an argument, allowing people to have opinions that differ from your own and there’s a lot more I’m leaving out.

Start being kind now. Stop the arguing and calling people names. Start being kind. The world needs more kindness. We need to band together and stop the hate that is spreading all over the place. I do not care who you voted for in this election, but I do care if you’re being a kind person.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
