Welcome Back To Stars Hallow

The highly anticipated revival of Gilmore Girls is here-- A Year In The Life hit Netflix on Black Friday and while some people were out getting the hottest deals, others were visiting Stars Hallow again. A Year in the Life is set nearly a decade after the last episode of Gilmore Girls aired, when Rory was taking off to write for an online magazine about Barack Obama and his election campaign (yes it has been that long). We are back in Stars Hallow with our favorite wacky characters, fast paced dialogue, and massive amounts of coffee.

The story follows the three prominent Gilmore Girls: Emily, the matriarch, and the death of Richard, her husband, and finding how to be independent after fifty years of marriage, Lorelei and her relationship with Luke (yes they are still together) and the ups and downs of the Dragonfly Inn, and Rory, who is trying to find herself at 32 years old and being lost with what to do. The revival is told in four 90 minute episodes and each episode corresponds to a month, with the show starting in the winter and ending in the summer.

The revival although highly anticipated and people that watched the original series will perhaps say didn't really hold up to the standard that we all expected. When two of the three main characters have happy endings and the third one that you expected would have a very happy ending didn't I was a little upset; I am not sure how other people felt but I was upset.

*Spoiler Alerts Ahead* If you have not finished it and have not started yet, please do not read further.

Let's start with Emily's move to being independent and coping with the husband she lost of fifty years. Her move to sell the house in Hartford was shocking and not expected and than her move to Nantucket was even more surprising. Her maid Berta was the comic relief throughout the show; it was very funny to watch Emily and everyone else try to understand what she was saying and what language she was speaking. By the end of the last episode Emily has closure in her life perhaps not an entire happy ending but closure and contentment with her life.

Lorelei goes on a very rough journey from almost losing Michelle to another competing hotel because he needs more money. He also finally comes out of the closet and we couldn't be happier for him! Lorelei goes through a rough time from going to therapy with her mom to going on her own because she needs someone to talk too. Than the biggest bomb shell of all she is doing Wild she goes to California and goes on a hike to find herself and to come to turns with what she needs to do. On returning from her trip we get to see Luke lose his cool and become so very happy when Lorelei tells him lets get married and than they do and we are all so excited for the couple that we have been rooting for non stop since they became a couple.

Rory is in a difficult position and most of us will experience this sense of loss when the time comes and we have to figure out what to do next. She becomes to cocky at an interview and doesn't get the position is upset and can't get another paid job. All the three of her ex's make an appearance from Jesse telling her to write a book about her and her mom to running into Dean at Doosey's market to knowing that she is having an affair with Logan. She and Lorelei have a fight because she decides to write a book about there life together.

The famous last four words left everyone in utter shock; no one saw it coming and we didn't get the closure for Rory like we did for Lorelei and Emily. It is a tumbultous journey that we take with these three girls and with cliff hanger at the end (Rory is pregnant) who know's what will happen or if the producers will pick up where they left off or keep us in suspense. Overall the revival was like no other taking us to a storybook town and catching us up with our favorite Gilmore Girls.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
