This past week, Starbucks released a promotional cup as a way to celebrate community and remind us that we are all in this together. But those who care more about what they drink their coffee out of than the message itself are the one’s that the message was actually pointed towards.
Yes, the winter holiday drinks just came out, but it’s just the beginning of November. People need to chill. For those who say that Starbucks took the red out of Christmas altogether, please take a moment to think about what the principal color of Starbucks is. Oh, that’s right, it’s green. It’s also just a cup, so again, please chill.
Most partners are already over the banter because they know that it’s not Starbucks’ holiday cup, so why let it get to them? But guess who forgot to check their source and instead went ahead with their stories to promote the hatred towards Starbucks' new "holiday" cup: the media.
Now when I say the media, I don’t mean a couple Facebook posts and a website that might be questionable. I’m talking about the big companies that give us the most credible news. Do a web search and check for yourself - every major media website you know of has already said what they believe is fact. Without even going to Starbucks and asking them whether these are the holiday cups or not, they went ahead and said they ARE anyways. This absolutely proves that you cannot trust the media. Period. You need to go and find out all the facts yourself, apparently. And funny enough, this is all realized during a time when our country is listening to the media the most. It’s so incredibly heartbreaking.
What is even more sad is this cup is supposed to represent all of us as one whole, loving community and it's created so much divisiveness - exactly the opposite of what this cup represents. Starbucks wanted to take a moment to remind us that although we all have different mindsets, we still need to be good to each other. That’s all the cups are about. They’re covered in drawings of human beings using one continuous line - because we are still “one" during this time in our nation.
If people just cared less about the paper cups that they’re going to throw away in about ten or fifteen minutes and more about the real issues in this country, there would already be so much more peacefulness in the world. If you're angry about this issue, you need to check your facts and realign your priorities because it’s just a cup. And it’s even a cup with an amazing message behind it, but you can’t get past the color - a trend that seems all too familiar in our nation.
With this being said, please be excited for Starbucks’ actual Holiday cups because they’re coming very soon! Until then, enjoy your latte in your really cool, green cup and be good to one another in the mean time.
