As a barista, there are good days and there are bad days. We love being there for you to make drinks, but we also love it when our customers are supportive. So lets dive into things all customers should know when going to Starbucks!

1. Take your time looking at our menu. There are a lot of choices!

Also notice that we do not have small, medium, and large sizes.

2. If you want room for cream/milk in your drink, ask for it.

This way you aren't pouring your 170-degree drink into our PLASTIC garbage cans.

3. We know when you are trying to cheat the system.

Don’t ask for a grande latte in a venti cup with extra milk. That is a venti latte, and we will charge you that price.

4. When you ask for no ice, it doesn’t give you extra drink, and your drink will be lukewarm at best.

5. Come into the drive-thru prepared with what you want.

If you come up to the window and still have more to order, you have become blacklisted in our minds.

6. Also, ordering from the passenger’s seat is a Starbucks sin.

We really can’t hear you, even after you say it for the third time.

7. Understand we need to charge for extra things.

We can't give out extra shots for free or syrups in drinks that don’t usually have that syrup. It is company policy and we do not make the rules.

8. If you want a fast experience, go through the drive-thru.

People shouldn’t come in and complain when there is a full cafe and the barista is taking a while to make their drink because of the number of other people. This is what drive-thrus are made for.

9. If you want to order a Secret Menu item, come with the ingredients.

We do not know each thing by heart, so if we do not know your Ariana Grande Frappuccino drink, we are sorry (this is a real drink).

10. If you add a bunch of modifications to your drink, understand it won’t be out in two minutes.

One venti chai with 10 pumps of chai, three pumps of vanilla, half the water, cold water instead of hot water, steamed almond milk at 185 degrees, no foam, whipped cream and double-cupped does not take the usual amount of time it would for us to make a normal chai. Be patient.

11. The person who is making your drinks knows what they are doing.

We know you have more than one drink; we are working as fast as we are able to get you a quality drink.

12. Please order water with your order, not through the person who is making the drinks.

The person who is barring is focused on making the drinks as they come in. If you add a water as they are passing you your other drinks, it throws them off their groove.

13. We only keep half and half on the condiment bar.

We have soy, almond milk, and coconut milk as alternatives. Just ask us to put that in your drink as we are making it, so you don’t have to come back for milk and throw us off our groove. Again.

14. We do like talking to you.

We take pride in getting to know our customers and asking about their lives.

15. At the end of the day, it is just coffee, and we are passionate about serving it to you as you are about drinking it.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
