The Star Wars saga has become one of the most iconic film series to have ever been made. Its epic special effects that were completely new upon its initial 1977 release still blows minds today. Heartbeats race in time to the ever-thrilling and recognizable music score by John Williams. Our bottoms will never cease to be on the edge of their seat with every galactic battle.
Besides the plain and pure awesomeness that is the Star Wars series, it has always held a special sentimental place in the hearts of many. It's been a piece of childhoods since the 70s and continues that to today.
The Star Wars series has touched the lives of every generation since its original release. When my parents were kids they sat with wide eyes and dropped jaws as they watched the genuinely out-of-this-world movie. The effects were so beyond its time and were made specifically for the Star Wars movies. Droids, lightsabers, The Force, and everyone's favorite fuzzball, Chewbacca - it was all brand new and had them hooked from the first beeps of R2-D2 to every escape.
Flash forward to 1999- Star Wars: The Phantom Menace is released. Movie theaters are filled with adults with child-like wonder in their eyes. They remember how they first felt watching the original Star Wars, only now they are accompanied by some new Padawans. A whole new generation of children is experiencing the same awe they once felt. I, myself, remember watching Revenge of Sith released the day after my fifth birthday in 2005. Star Wars had now evolved beyond just an epic space opera, it was a family affair.
Last December of 2015, I filed into the premiere showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. As I looked around the theater I saw the faces of people ranging in all ages, from grandparents to grandchildren. But behind physical age, every face showed the same giddy grin and sparkling eye that comes with watching a Star Wars movie. I already have my tickets to see Rogue One this Thursday at 8pm with my family, and I cannot wait to be in a theater where everyone shares the same excitement over a set of stories that changed the film industry and our childhoods forever all over again.
Star Wars - Ages 0 and up, does not require batteries, parental supervision recommended (because they'll want to watch it too). Sit back and enjoy.
