Star Trek Beyond is the third installment of the newest Star Trek series. However before I start the review, I would like a moment of silence for Leonard Nimoy who was in one of the in original Star Trek as Spock, and Anton Yelchin who played Ensign. They have been a part of this legacy, and I will never forget them. Now for the movie to be reviewed, so if you have not seen it yet, caution spoilers ahead.
It begins with Captain Kirk, Chris Pine, thinking about leaving as captain for a desk job. Since him and his crew have been in space nonstop, except when they are exploring a new planet. Along with Spock, Zachary Quinto, thinking about taking Spock Prime, Leonard Nimoy's, place after his death. They make a stop at a space station and are given a mission to save a science crew that has been stranded. They go to this planet and let's just saw it went south fast, really fast.
They get ambushed and the ship gets destroyed. Having the lost most of the crew and most of them being separated, that were not captured or lost. Spock, Leonard McCoy, played by Karl Urban, Kirk, Ensign, Scotty with Jaylah, Sofia Boutella, and the scientists that lead them there. They are in pairs for the most part. Scotty and Jaylay go to her home, which is the first ship that could enter hyperspace. The ship was about a hundred years old when they got there.
Now before I go further I would like to talk about Jaylay who was portrayed by Sofia Boutella. This character was amazing on so many levels. One she is a badass that does not need saving of any kind. Along with the fact that she is not some eye candy to sell seats, but she has a mind of her own. Lastly, she is not the object of some romantic interest. I can not say really much bad about the character. Now another strong female character is Nyota Uhura, played by Zoe Saldana, but she in the first movie was sexualized and is a romantic interest.
Now it was assumed that the crew was dead since by this time they would have been well into their hundreds, however the captain was not. The planet had a way of prolonging life. This was not without its drawbacks, it twisted him more. When I say more he and his crew were trapped on a planet, they send out an S.O.S signal with no help, and he was a war hero. His goal was to start war on every planet to make people great again.
Now the villain was not evil, but simply twisted and trying to survive. This is worth going to see with people or by yourself. Now it is time to go where no man has gone before.
