Stanford Rapist Brock Turner Banned For Life By USA Swimming

USA Swimming has banned rapist Brock Turner for life.

USA Swimming is the National Governing Body for the sport of swimming in the United States. It is also a member service organization that creates opportunities for swimmers to advance in their passion.

Turner, who now faces a 3-month jail sentence for raping an unconscious woman, was a swimmer for Stanford University.

He will no longer be able to compete in nationally sponsored events or the Olympic trials.

"USA Swimming condemns the crime and actions committed by Brock Turner, and all acts of sexual misconduct. Brock Turner is not a member of USA Swimming and, should he apply, he would not be eligible for membership,” Scott Leightman, USA Swimming spokesperson, said in a statement gathered by ABC News. “Had he been a member, he would have been subject to the USA Swimming Code of Conduct. USA Swimming strictly prohibits and has zero tolerance for sexual misconduct, with firm Code of Conduct policies in place, and severe penalties, including a permanent ban of membership, for those who violate the Code of Conduct.”

With such a large response to the victim's letter to Turner, the news of him being banned from USA Swimming has been no different.

Many people on social media, especially Twitter, have reacted by saying that banning him from swimming is not enough.

Others on Twitter believe this is the least that could have been done, since his original and light 6-month sentence in jail was changed to 3 months.

There are currently many petitions going around involving the case, many of them calling to remove Judge Aaron Persky from the bench and to give Turner a max sentence for his crimes.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
