What I Believe Feminism Is Really About

So I have been at an endless battle, not only with myself but with others, about what feminism is really about. I am a feminist. BUT. I have many problems with some of the things that some feminists stand for.

First, us women do not support each other. How do you expect anyone to give any respect when you can't even find it in yourself to respect a fellow woman? For years, we have been taught to compete with one another because being better is an accomplishment. We fight over men, over who looks better and we are simply petty. Instead of competing, we should be empowering and supporting one another.

As a feminist, I have noticed that we stand for different things. This may be one of the funniest yet one of the saddest things I have discovered. We cannot call ourselves something but stand for something completely different.

Example: Some feminists want to ban the hijab, but some think the hijab is a sign of feminism. I believe that a woman should wear whatever it is she feels comfortable in. Many believe that the hijab is an oppressive article of clothing meant to make the woman unseen. But it is up to the woman to make that decision for herself.

Social media has helped me see that many feminists are actually not even feminist. If you're a man-hating person, then you are no feminist. Feminism is all about wanting equality (and empowerment). We want the same treatment that men have been getting since forever. We are not a bunch of men-hating lesbians (at least I hope we're not). We are women that want equality (not sure how many times I have to repeat the word equality until it becomes clear that we want equality).

With that being said...

Dear men, if I hear the phrase, "this is why chivalry is dead." I honestly hope it dies if you keeping being a woman-hating, self-righteous a**hole. If you're on a date and you've been paying the bill a few times, I believe that the other should pay the next few times. Because equality. Holding doors open should not be a thing reserved for a woman you are interested in. You should hold the door open for elders, women, men, dogs. It's good manners. And the question at hand is should chivalry only exist in men? Shouldn't it be a universal male/female trait?

Just remember one thing. When it comes to supporting humans (male and female and other genders) I will support you. Because I stand with you, not against you.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
