Stand Up

Defend what you believe in.

So I am in this philosophy class online, and it sucks. I find it boring and I understand that not everyone finds it as boring as I do, but I do not like being told that God does not exist when I believe he does. The questions I had to answer were: What are some of the most common reasons for the belief in a personal God, what are some of the most common reasons people do not believe in a personal God and what is your reason if you believe in God?

To answer these questions I said the most common reasons for the belief in God basically comes down to our hope we have with him. It puts people at ease when they know they will always have someone with them 24/7. I said that people do not believe in God because they may blame the loss of a loved one on God, but what they do not realize is that God does everything for a reason.

Also, people have a hard time believing in something that they cannot see. It is kind of like from the movie "God's Not Dead" when the main character Josh says to his professor, “How can you hate someone if you say they do not exist.” I think it is a very valid point. I went on to say that I believe in God because without God we would not be here. Also, it is not possible for the Earth to just magically appear, but I am not going to get into that. That is not the point of the article. If you do not agree with me then you do not have read this. No one is forcing you to.

Answering these questions was kind of difficult to answer for me and I got quite annoyed. I was never really asked why I believe in God. So the point of this article is not to persuade you that God exists but to ask Christians to stand up for Jesus. I feel that there are many Christians out there like me who would find it difficult to answer that question as well. My pastor always says “If you stand for nothing you will fall for anything.” I am as guilty as anyone of this.

With how bad the world is becoming we should be sticking up for Jesus and letting his light shine and instead we hide in a corner because we are afraid of what people will think and say. We are too concerned about our reputations to take a stand. Especially after everything we know God has done for us. How many times has he answered our prayers? How many times has he helped us get through the day? Why do we get to live in heaven one day? Why did he die for us? He does these things because he loves us. Now we should start giving back and returning this love by believing that he knows best and by standing up for the one true king.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
