Happy New Year

With the New Year here, the endless amount of people with New Year's resolutions is inevitable. Let's be honest, what is better than a new year, new you! It is sticking to this resolution that many seem to struggle with. Popular resolutions are a new, healthier diet (which is no fun!), going to the gym every day (this one is tough), or just overall being a better, happier person! A few stages that everyone goes through when trying to stick to their resolution are as follows...

1. The fresh excitement of your resolution!

Their is something so exciting about the New Year. Most people take this opportunity with a "new me" approach. Because who doesn't love a fresh start!

2. A few days in, you feel confident and good!

So you are a few days into the new year, and you have been keeping up with that diet, or the gym, or whatever your resolution may have been. You feel even better than ever and you feel refreshed. How long does this last you ask?

3. Contemplating if it is worth it anymore to eat salad every meal.

You probably are not used to eating salad ever, let alone as a frequent "meal". I mean come on, who actually enjoys eating lettuce... NO ONE! This is when reality starts settling back in.

4. Breaking your resolution for the first time, and convincing yourself it's OK.

Let's be honest, sticking to a resolution and making change is hard! It is only inevitable that you slip up once or twice, or a few more times. But either way, you coach yourself through it, because everybody has a bad day here or there, right???

5. And eventually, giving up.

At this point, about a week and a half into the new year you have just given up, but it's OK. There is always next year in about 355 days or so! Regardless, if you have a new year's resolution for 2017 and you are adamant about sticking to it, may the odds be ever in your favor. Here is to a good 2017 filled with a year of fulfillment and happiness! Remember, you do not need to change anything to be better in 2017!

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.

I am without a doubt one of those people who refuses to start decorating for Christmas or listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving.
