Here we are again.

8 Stages Of Starting A New School Year

As the new school year slides right back into our laps; new adventures and challanges fall onto our plates. We have been doing this for a long time now, but it seemingly never gets old or dull.

1. Excitement

Be real with yourself, at the start of every semester you're excited to start new classes, get new books and school supplies. New chapters to un turn, and subjects to learn! How is that not exciting to a college student. Also you get to see you're roommate(s) and pick your room theme for this year! Also you get to see your best friends an sisters(brothers) again. Reunited and it feels so good!!

2. Looking at you're schedule

Even though you picked it way back in April, you go back and relook your schedule to see if you can make any adjustments and remind yourself of what you're taking. Not as early/late, maybe get into a class with you're best friend or a different class all together.

3. Realizing how much money you have to spend.

That moment when you open up you're book list, realize you have Dues and tuition to pay and loans to re sign up for and you spent all you're money on makeup, chipotle, and clothes that you earned this summer.

4. Realizing how much work you actually have to do.

You totally forgot to pay you're deposit and request you're beds to be lofted/bunked. You also forgot to sign up for a meal plan so you have to pay the late fee. You’re taking 4 out of 5 classes in you're major and you just wanna cry.

5. The pep talk you give yourself on the first day.

Something that probably goes along the lines of: Nothing is impossible, you have done this before (maybe even a lot of times before,) and you're going to get through this. Other people have passed Organic Chemistry/Calculus/ Business stats before so can you. Okay this class is in room 240 in the science building you have been there before, hopefully there are some cute boys/girls in this class.

6. When you see an unexpected homie in you're class.

This was not planned, but its really nice to see them in your class.

7. Professor Anxiety

The voice in the back of your head that tells you no matter how many reviews you read and people you asked, you still might hate you're professor and they still might suck. The possibility that they have complete restructured their classes from “open book tests, optional homework and final” to “5 exams 6 papers and you're final is 45% of you're grade.”

8. Realizing that you worried for nothing.

You're professors are all good, you're beds got lofted, you and you're roomie both want pastel green and grey as a color scheme (Emilie Mies.) You found cheeper books through Chegg and Amazon. Your sisters still love you, and its going to be a great semester as long as I don’t procrastinate this time!

I miss you Loyola can’t wait to be back!!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
