Ah, spring break. Most of us have already finished it and know what I’m talking about, and for those who haven’t gone on spring break yet, you’ll know what I’m talking about soon enough. From happiness to temporary depression to ultimate procrastination, these are the stages of spring break that (almost) everyone goes through:
1. Utter Joy
The first stage of spring break is the purest, with you probably imagining the possibilities of what you’re going to do for the rest of the week. Maybe you make some plans with your friends (or decide to do that later) because you’re too busy binging Netflix at the moment.
Either way, you’re super pumped about the break, but keep in mind that it’s just the beginning of the week.
2. Confusion???
What to do, what to do? This is the stage where laziness kicks in at its all-time high point —where you want to hang out with people but don’t want to at the same time. Getting out of the house seems like a foreign concept to some as you’ve been cooped up on the couch for the entire week, but you have to get over it at some point.
Eating food 24/7 and finishing a season of a show in a day definitely isn’t a healthy lifestyle. Go make some plans with friends or family instead!
3. (Seemingly) The Peak
You finally get over your case of the slumps and decide to go outside and get a fresh dose of vitamin D. Wait, is that the sound of birds chirping? While you’re at it, you go to the beach, the mall, a friend’s house, get ice cream — you name it. You’re on top of the world, and nothing can stop you. You never want spring break to end. This is the happiest, most carefree part of spring break. The part you always imagine your dream break to be, the one that’s always in movies.
4. Temporary Depression
Here’s where everything starts going downhill. Ever feel like you have too much time on your hands? Well, this stage is exactly that. The excitement of freedom from school and responsibilities finally dies down, and you start questioning just what exactly you’re doing with your life. You certainly don’t feel like making plans with everyone, and that dark, forlorn stage of staying inside all day, eating massive amounts of chips on the couch comes back to haunt you.
However, this stage is a bit different from the previous one. Instead of happily watching 50 episodes per day, you’re a bit distraught and your mind tends to wander elsewhere. This is when you start doubting the idea of having fun and being on break and wish more than anything to regain productivity and go back to school.
5. Procrastination At Its Finest
The looming pile of work that’s been waiting for you and mocking you for the entire week finally seems to capture your attention. You desperately try to finish everything the night before school starts again and hope that what you wrote is actually right and not just some random words bunched together.
At this point, you question why you ever wanted to go back to school and proclaim that school is, in fact, a hellhole.
6. Back To School
It’s finally here, and you wish with all your heart that it wasn’t. Somehow, you drag yourself out of bed and brush your teeth, half asleep. Walking to the bus seems like a nightmare in itself, and the depressing school building seems almost like a prison. But in the end, you manage to get through the day unscathed and retreat to your bed after school to take a long and verywell-deserved nap.
