Stages Of Summer

Throughout life, summer is a time of excitement for most. With the sun, the sand, the fruity drinks, what's there not to love? Well I have noticed that summer has changed as I have grown. I have created five stages that explain the evolution of summers.

1. Childhood Excitement

Summer is the greatest time of your life. You live and breathe for summer so you can go outside, get some fresh air, run around and play with all of your best friends. These are the glory days, no cares in the world...except for when snack time was.

2. Teen Angst

The only thing you care about is what your friends are up to. You don't want any involvement with your family, just to go out and be free because you're "not a baby anymore." Update: you're still a child whether you want to believe it or not. Thats just the way it roles sweetie. You would rather be in the air conditioning updating your Tumblr and insta rather that enjoying the great world around you.

3. College Dreams

Summer is a struggle bus to the max. All you want to do is go back to school to see your friends and be with those at school, but you know that you need to money that you're ranking in with that summer job. And you like the time off from slaving away in the library but all in all, you're definitely still counting down the days until you move back to school.

4. Adulthood Death

Is there a summer anymore? Work doesn't end once the heat comes up. Yes you can take vacations but all in all, that nine to five doesn't end because you want to go to the beach. You reminisce on the days of "childhood excitement" where you could not have to wake up early and worry about being a responsible person.

5. Parent's Nightmare

The children are off of school..... now what do you do? Do you send them to camp? Do you get a babysitter? Do you ship them to your relatives? There are so many options you don't know what to do. What you do know is, you're the one counting down the days till they go back so you don't have to worry about it anymore.

No matter what stage of summer you're in, remember to relax and have some fun. Life can't be all work and no play, and you definitely need to get some fresh air and Vitamin C.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. The transition from living with parents to being on my own was an experience I couldn't have even imagined- both a good and a bad thing. Here's a personal archive of a few of the things I learned after going away for the first time.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
