The Stages That We All Face When We Are Sick

Accepting that you're sick is a journey, and the road to recovery is an even longer one.

Nobody likes being sick. Although the thought of having an excuse to lay around in bed all day sounds pleasing, when it actually happens, we feel so drained that we can't appreciate this golden opportunity. We tend to hate every second of it, and are actually excited to get back to our normal lives. These feelings come in stages of course, and we all face them when we are plagued with a sickness.

1. Prevention

If you're a germaphobe like me, you do everything you can to try to prevent yourself from getting sick. When someone tells you they're ill, you're wiping down everything they touch and washing your hands religiously. If they cough, you hold your breath for 10 seconds because that's what WebMD told you to do when you googled "What to do when someone around you is sick?"

2. Denial

So you woke up and your throat feels kind of funny, but you tell yourself and your body that it's nothing. You might drink some warm lemon and honey water just in case, but you know you're not sick. There's no way you could be sick. You sanitized everything.

3. Acceptance

So your sore throat that was nothing turned out to be something, and you have accepted your fate. You skip class or call into work, and confine yourself to your bed. You're drinking your body weight in fluids and trying to do everything you can for a speedy recovery.

4. Questioning if goodness still exists in the world

How dare the universe let you get sick? You ate an apple the other day. You cleaned your house. You even washed your bedding, yet here you are. You lost control of your own life in a matter of days and the world doesn't even seem to care.

5. Complete boredom

You've been locked in the house for a couple of days and have watched everything that the television has to offer. You got tired of staring at the walls in your bedroom, so you decided to switch things up and move to the couch. It's exciting at first, but gets old quick. You try to sleep away your boredom, but your extreme congestion just won't let you.

6. The happiness that comes with a sign of recovery

You're finally able take a shower and eat a breakfast that you can actually taste. Then you make the life changing decision that you're ready to go outside, and the moment that the fresh air hits your face you know that it's over; you survived and you're ready to take on the world. You hated being sick, but it gave you a new appreciation for your health.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
