The Stages Of The Disney College Program Acceptance

Everyday is worse than the last, until you get accepted. Then everything is amazing.

Disney aka "The Happiest Place on Earth." Is it just as happy to work there as it is to be there? I guess I'll be finding out this summer. Of course, the Disney College Program and Disney Professional Internships are some of the most difficult internships to land. Some hopefuls apply year after year only to be turned down time and time again.

The rejection can suck, but what about the acceptance? Disney drags you through a torturous waiting process that can only truly be described by GIFs.

1. Submitting Your Application

I don't know if everyone contemplates life before submitting an application to Disney, but I know I did. Some people were even freaking out about using commas or bullet points in their application. Bottom line is, everyone who applies wants to be a part of the best company in the world and live out their dream. Some are just a little more paranoid about the application than others.

2. Getting A Phone Interview

Jumping for joy, screaming, and crying are among the common responses. I personally screamed a little. Just a little though because I was at work. The phone interview is something that only around 10,000-13,000 people get offered so getting to that point is a huge thing.

3. Waiting For Your Phone Interview To Start

I woke up at 6:00 am the day of my interview, put on Minnie Mouse ears, watched Lilo and Stitch, and then listened to Disney music until my interviewer called. I was pretty wired to say the least, and not just because I made myself four cups of coffee that morning. All of that preparation couldn't have possibly prepared me for the feeling of my heart dropping to the pit of my stomach when my interviewer called.

4. Right After Your Phone Interview

Dead or on top of the world. There is no middle; just the two extremes. Either you know that you were on your game with the questions, or you said "uh" for every other word. Don't freak out too much though. Lots of people who think they do terribly on the phone interview still get in! They're just trying to make sure you're right to be the face of Disney.

5. The Waiting Game

Worst. Thing. Ever. Do I really need to say more? I waited for about three weeks after my phone interview to find out whether or not I was accepted. Some wait months and some only have to wait a few days. No matter if it's one hour or two months the wait sucks.

6. Watching A Wave Pass You By

This is when you really start to hate looking at the Facebook pages for the Disney College Program. Everyday brings a wave and everyday makes you even more sad that you aren't in the wave of acceptances.

7. Getting "THE" E-Mail

Freaking out isn't even the way to describe it. I cried and fell to the floor in my roommates room; others had to pull off the road when driving so they wouldn't wreck. No matter the reaction, just know that it's totally okay to be excited because you're moving to Disney!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
