Just about everybody knows about and loves St. Patrick’s Day. Or should I say, St. Party's Day. Am I right? A holiday full of green. Lots and lots of green, and lots and lots of beer. But are we celebrating it the right way, the way it’s done in Ireland? Nope. In Ireland, SPD is a holy day, not one to get completely plastered and forget how old you are or where you live. So let's get cultured, shall we?

The Celebration

Ireland- Obviously they celebrate the day because of their Irish heritage.

USA- Everybody, including the non-Irish "celebrate" the day, if you know what I mean

The Outfits of Choice

Ireland- They wear shamrocks

USA- We wear lots of green. So much green, in fact, that if you step out into nature, you become invisible.

The Pinching Ritual

Ireland- No pinching if you don't wear green because in Ireland the people actual like each other.

USA- You get pinched if you do not wear green, and that sh*t hurts.

The Daily "Activities"

Ireland- They go to church, spend time with their families, and honor their namsake.

USA- We're boozin' today, brothers.

The Food

Ireland- A delicious roast dinner is served, and you dine with your family.

USA- Um time spent eating means less time spent drinking....

The Food... Again

Ireland- The true Irish do not eat corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day. Everything is a myth.

USA- Those who think they're Irish think it's an ethnic dish.

The Alcohol

Ireland- Pubs are closed on St. Patrick’s Day.

USA- Pubs open early, and if you're lucky enough, you might get to hit up "Kegs 'n' Eggs" at the crack of dawn.

The (Green) Alcohol

Ireland- If they do drink, the beer is a regular hue.

USA- Green beer is festive, right?

The Day Drinking

Ireland- Is pretty much non-existant.

USA- If you don't black out, you did it wrong.

The Parades

Ireland- Parades are fairly new to Ireland.

USA- We've been parading since 1766

The End

Ireland- The celebration ends with music, stories, and the drowning of the shamrock.

USA- You’re day ended 6 hours ago when you probably passed out and don’t remember a single thing.

It's not unlike America to go above, beyond, and overboard with our celebrations. While SPD in the USA is all about having a good time, remember to stay safe and be cautious. But the moral of the story is long live the Irish! Erin go Bragh!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
